These are the words I have focused on as a creator. I’ve been making content and writing about blogging now for a number of years, and in that time I have definitely made my share of mistakes and bad creative decisions. The hardest part of a new project however can often be starting! So if you are a blogger, writer, or creative, and either have a blog or are thinking of starting one then this post is for you. Popular Posts | Introduce Yourself

The first and perhaps the most important post to create as a blogger is an ‘About Me’ or introduction article, sharing who you are, why you create, and what you do! Despite first appearances it’s not about you but more about creating a connection with your audience. Sharing about your life helps to make you relatable, and personable. It’s great if you can also include the benefits to the readers and your community, what they will get by reading your content and what they can look forward to seeing in the future. It’s a great idea to include some interesting and/or entertaining facts about yourself, your life, and your goals. This is a great way to welcome your audience when they first find your blog, so feature it in an obvious place on your website where it’s easily found and accessible.

When starting a blog, it’s helpful to think about what you are inspired by, passionate or knowledgeable about. These are all elements of valuable content you can contribute to your readers, and by sharing your knowledge in the form of tutorials, tips and tricks you create a sense of value and purpose to your blog. Your audience will enjoy learning something new, even if it is just sharing your personal experience of a topic or story. I have created a number of tutorials sharing my creative adventures with makeup here, and more importantly my experience and expertise with over ten years of photographic experience such as ‘The Photo Studio’ series here. Make sure to keep your knowledge and advice short and sweet however, to keep your audience coming back, and to make it easy and fun to read!

Lists of all kinds are a great way to create entertaining and informative blog articles. You can create lists of all types of subjects, by keeping it relevant to your niche. Turn your knowledge and passions into lists including your favourite brands or labels, step by step instructions, and links to relevant information on other platforms. When presenting content that belongs to someone else though, it’s always important to credit not only for ethical reasons as I have discussed in my previous post here on ‘Creative Integrity’, but also because it gives the original creators reason to share and promote your article too! Finally, it’s important to include your own narrative or opinions which will make your article original and valuable to your readers.

Popular Posts | Collaborations & Guest Posts

Thinking win-win, and finding others whom you share aesthetic, values, ideas, or a niche with is a great way to generate unique content, build your audience, and establish your reputation in your industry. You can do this in a few different ways, by either featuring your own response write up to someone else’s content, opinion or ideas, or through interviews and guest posts. Interviews can be time consuming and require a lot of preparation, but this depends on whether you choose to conduct them in person or over email. Guest posts are less work but you also have less control over the finished piece. This is where you ask another creator to make a post just for your blog and they take over the creation process. Personally, I have found that selective interviews and features in ways where you can contribute to the finished content are the best ways to do this, and create the most value for both parties.

Joining a current conversation topic in your niche, and responding to it with your own unique contribution is a great way to connect with others in your niche and gain notoriety. What topics are trending? What conversations are happening now in your niche? What questions are people asking? What problems are being encountered? The answers to these questions can form the foundations for fantastic articles, and thought provoking content that has a high organic reach. A quick google search can reveal what topics are trending in your industry at the moment, or you can take inspiration from what leaders in your niche are sharing!
