The Great Gatsby — The Wardrobe

I have been super excited about this outfit for a little while now, ever since my good friend and fellow blogger Miss Hero Holliday inspired me with her beautiful Art Deco styled dresses from the amazing craftsmanship of The Gatsbylady London. I was lucky enough to wear one of my favourite dresses from her collection; The Gloria Vintage Inspired Cape Dress in navy. It was a choice between the white one and the navy one, and anyone who follows me on my Insta here, knows just how much I love navy! (It really is the new black).

I popped this outfit together with the help of Miss Hero Holliday, who transformed my hair into this amazing vintage look. She also helped me with my eyeliner flicks (which can be really tricky for those of us that don't do them often enough). I have to say, since this outfit I have played around and using a little tape when doing them has helped a huge amount. The location for this shoot was none other than the High Court in Auckland, not the court itself but outside there was a gorgeous bloom of purple wisteria and so was the perfect backdrop for this look. I love flowers and blooms and as many of you will know from my other posts, colours that work well together can create the most dreamy of looks. I never put more than three colours together in one outfit - even within my makeup. I feel as though simplicity has an elegance that clutter just does not. So, I generally pick one saturated colour, and a white/grey/black or neutral to accompany it in any outfit. Sometimes I might pick one more saturated colour, but not often. For this outfit it was navy and white.

The construction of the Gatsbylady dress is incredible. As you can see the detailing is beautiful, across the top cape section and the bottom of the skirt. There are also sequins around the neckline. All the beading is immaculately sewn, and constructed really solidly. There were no loose threads or raw edges anywhere, as you sometimes see on more mass produced garments with delicate embroidery and beading. The fit was lovely too, very flattering and still elegant. I wore it again on my birthday when we went out to dinner - and you don't have to worry about it clinging!

I chose a simple white hair flower for this outfit instead of making my own, as my own pieces are more complicated and detailed, and I wanted the focus to be on the beautiful detail of the dress. I just love how big and floofy Miss Hero Holliday made my hair! It was incredible to see it transformed. She created a final wave to the side top section of my hair, which frames the whole style so nicely. See more in my video below.

To pair with the dress I wore my ever so elegant satin heels from Overland, my personal favourite. The fit is beautiful! I have very narrow feet so good quality heels are a must for me in order to be comfortable and Overland has an awesome range. These particular heels are in fact bridal ones, as they have their own bridal range. My side bag is from Strandbags, and it's an awesomely cute little bag to pair with a few different outfits, I like it with this one because it plays a cute spin on a sophisticated look. My jewellery is from Pascoes, and they have a few different sets with rubies and different coloured stones in classic settings including faux rubies, and emeralds.

It was a lovely day for a stroll in my vintage dress and I am happy to say that my hair lasted for about 3 days so curly it was fantastic! I can never get my hair to last and Miss Hero Holliday is truly a hair wizard.
