Maggie Marilyn | A Makeup Tutorial
The Earth Laughs in Flowers…
Maggie Marilyn debuted her season nine collection at New Zealand Fashion Week in 2019, and her runway show was a stunning affair. Held at the Morningside ‘Glasshouse’ in Ponsonby, it was lush and brimming with earthly delights for the senses. Beautiful flowers, lush greenery intertwined with a wholesome farmers market aesthetic mirroring the virtues of her brand and ethos.

Maggie Marilyn | A Makeup Tutorial
In keeping with the aesthetic and atmosphere of Maggie Marilyn’s stunning runway show of 2019, I wanted this makeup look to emulate a fresh feel! To create this I went for a barely there makeup look, with rough tussled curls and defined eyes complete with dewy skin.
Maggie Marilyn | The Runway Inspiration
The 2019 New Zealand Fashion runway show of Maggie Marilyn’s season nine collection was one to remember. What I loved about the styling was that although the runway was lush, the makeup and hair was kept minimal and natural. Gentle curls draped the faces of many models, along with a delicate nude lip and ample blush, highlight and soft pinks. I wanted to take the essence of this look and create my own version of this soft spring feel with my own twist.
Maggie Marilyn | The Makeup Look
I went for a more defined version of the ‘barely there’ face chart of Maggie Marilyn’s 2019 show. Unlike the runway models, I defined my eyes and used a slightly brighter nude to define my lips. I feel it’s important to remember that each face suits different elements and although I love the natural feel I also love to define my features as I have a very soft face! I only used a small number of products for this look, Thin Lizzy, Loreal, and featured sponsor Rom&nd who I created a Korean beauty makeup tutorial look you can check out here!

To create this fresh spring makeup look it’s easy and simple to do!
Prepare and prime your skin. I use the ‘Daily Moisturiser’ for sensitive skin as I have for a long time, by Nutrogena. It’s a fantastic brand and this particular product is super light and feels lovely on your skin. I apply moisturiser before I do every makeup look, giving it time to set into the skin which usually takes about fifteen minutes. Then I apply primer with a brush, for this look I used a tinted primer by Catrice Cosmetics. Using a tinted primer is effective for any natural look, removing the need for liquid foundation and keeps my coverage light and fresh.
Next, I spot conceal any areas that need it, I use Thin Lizzy concealer in shade ‘Von Dita’ and it has excellent coverage when used sparingly. Use a brush to apply and if necessary your fingertips to blend out on any blemishes.
Light powder foundation, I used Thin Lizzy compact powder and a blending brush over my t-zone to create a beautiful canvas. Then I brushed up my brows and defined the ends with an angled brow brush and my Anastasia beverly hills brow pomade in taupe.
I always use a tiny amount of lip balm under my eye area to prevent creasing of any powder or concealer, this is a handy tip and makes the end result look even more natural!
For my cheeks I used my two favourite palettes from Thin Lizzy, the highlighter and blush palettes with the lighter spring tones, highlighting on the tip of my nose, top of my cheekbones and above my lip.
Then I apply my Thin Lizzy magnetic eyeliner for easy lashes, let it dry and apply my magnetic lashes!
Finally I add a matte lip with my favourite set of lip colours from Korean cosmetics brand Rom&nd, in the shade ‘Toasty Nude.’ You can read the full makeup review and colour swatches here!
I’ve added hair extensions for this look, brush them out after pre-curling them, and giving them a gentle massage to complete the look!
