Support Local…

I love to support local creators, artists, and makers. Being a creator myself I know how hard it can be to get your work seen, and I’ve always felt that New Zealand creative talent is hard to find! That’s why I decided to create a new aggregator page on Instagram, featuring the creators of New Zealand in art, fashion, photography and design. If you have a suggestion for a local Kiwi creator whose work should be featured, send me a private message on Instagram to @nzcreators ♥︎

New Zealand Creators | A Celebration of Creativity

New Zealand creators is all about promoting the talented creatives of the place I am proud to call home. My goal was to focus on creators big and small, showcasing the best of art, fashion, photography, and digital media. It can be hard to categorise what is and what isn’t art - which is why I try to feature artists of all backgrounds, ages, and experience levels. My goal is to creative variety, and diversity to encourage local creators. I wanted my fellow creatives and I to finally have a space where everyone is welcome, and where all forms of art are supported. On @nzcreators I try to promote everything from traditional approaches to the contemporary. The purpose of an artist can vary depending on who you ask, so the art I feature is a reflection of these different perspectives. Some art is emotive, some is funny, some is thought provoking, and some is simply about visual enjoyment through technical mastery. The plethora of identities I’ve included is what makes this page so special. New Zealand may be known for it’s rugby, sheep, and Lord of The Rings, but I am hoping this will take us one step closer to being recognised as a nation home to unique artistic talent too. Many of the artists I meet on here are often shy, and keep to their own groups or personal bubble, unsure or afraid of how to get their work seen. Part of this mentality I believe comes from a lack of encouragement and support on a cultural level for creatives here in New Zealand. The truth is that there are LOTS of people, locally and abroad who are desperately excited to see this new creative talent emerge, and connect with other creatives. The beautiful thing about the art world is that there is always a place for everyone, all it takes is a little patience to find it.

New Zealand Creators | The Past and Future

So far, it’s been an exciting creative journey collecting, promoting and connecting with other local New Zealand artists. I try to ensure I share everyone’s work at least once on the platform, but with hundreds and hundreds of accounts this can be difficult to plan and organise on my own. I’m currently working on a database of everyone I have discovered, and putting that to work on a future project that will benefit all involved. In the mean time, I’ll be sharing and promoting every artist I discover and learning about their different stories along the way.

New Zealand creators is an opportunity for me to share some of the knowledge I’ve gained over the years on social media, marketing, and Instagram. Join me for tips and tricks on promoting your social media as a creative, and for all the best and brightest in the New Zealand art community over on @nzcreators!
