Beautiful things are the epitome of joy for me, and creating fashion pieces that I can style with a variety of looks in my wardrobe is my goal! The Wardrobe will soon have it’s very own shop, and I am so excited to launch it! Featuring a collection of staple fashion accessories, as well as pieces I have designed and hand made here in New Zealand. These new statement pieces will be custom collections through my label I have named ‘Katie Marvel’ ♡

The Story of The Wardrobe Shop | Creating a Fashion Label
One aspect of my story that is still relatively unknown is the large amount of time I spent training in pattern making and fashion design. Originally, before I became a photographer it was my teenage dream to eventually work for the visionaries of the couture houses like Dolce and Gabbana, or Louis Vuitton in Europe. Throughout high school I pushed myself to develop my skills and learned a variety of pattern drafting and draping techniques, which I took with me into university. I felt like I belonged at Art School so with the success I found in photography during this time I moved away from fashion and into photography to create my business now known as ‘The Undefined Photography’. From Past to Present | How Katie Marvel Began
Before The Wardrobe was a blog, and a space for my imagination to run wild it was originally a shop, a handmade store of fashion pieces I created in small collections, made to order. Some of these pieces I still wear now, including my glitter bead set from ‘The Dorothy Collection’. Despite my big dreams I was shy about promoting my work and so when I didn’t find success overnight I changed the website into a more versatile blog. I have come full circle now, and found myself creating again with a wealth of ideas and a love for the simple, vibrant and elegant. I want to create pieces that are timeless, that can be styled with a wealth of outfits and transcend specific occasions to cater for the style conscious. I want to create something magical, and that’s where I decided on the name ‘Katie Marvel’. The name itself I saw in a dream I had a few years back, and thought nothing of it at the time but I was fascinated by the ring of it, and the way it sounded. Katie is a derivative of my own name, Katherine and Marvel seems to summarise the feeling of magic that has followed me through the years within my work.

I am currently working on the design of The Wardrobe Shop, curating each piece and focusing on creating a capsule collection that can be intermatched, is transeasonal, and includes all the essential statement accessories for every occasion. At the same time, I am settling on my final designs for Katie Marvel including a selection of pieces I’ve photographed for the images in this post. I’m a big believer in doing as much as I can myself, so that I can oversee everything from quality control to the aesthetic. Katie Marvel is a New Zealand label of fashion and accessories, so I am excited to start with smaller pieces and transition into garments over this year… Bring on 2020! ♡
