Life Of a ring neck dove in New Zealand
The Story of Mashmello
It was a difficult first year, with illness, injury and recovery for Piggy as she got used to daily life amongst her hooman counterparts. Piggy began to learn about her new favourite bird activities like baths, moulting season, and sun bathing. She even started to enjoy the odd human snack of pizza crumbs, and before she knew it she was right at home.
Eventually, Piggy found true love with none other than her very own hooman. Her hooman may be a bad bird husband, but he helped build their first nest together in the perfect spot. Piggy became an excellent Mummy soon laying her very first eggu! She enjoys lovingly tending to her eggus in her travelling eggu box which has since taken her around the country from Matakana all the way to Christchurch, New Zealand where she now calls home.
Piggy joined the hooman world not long after she hatched in the quiet suburbs of Auckland. A far too easy kidnapping victim, she was first brought home as a young squab covered in feather lice with a drooping wing, malnourished and shortly after a mysterious injury which damaged the nerves of her left side. Far from developing her adult plumage and iconic black neck ring, she began her journey as a young ring neck dove in recovery.
Piggy got into all sorts of adventures with her hooman but her favourite were the edible kind. New plants and flowers to enjoy and nibble at, as well as plenty of interesting objects to SEEK AND DESTROY. [Thanks Piggy] A great little photography assistant, she would perch on the backdrop stand while her hooman diligently worked, and go to sleep at night in her own little bird bedroom.
